The Plot
Love, the deadliest of deadly things...
On their 18th birthday, every American must receive brain surgery known as the Cure. It protects them from Amor Deliria Nervosa- Love. Not everyone want the Cure, but unfortunately for them, it isn't optional. If they don't want the Cure, they have to flee to the Wilds and live as "Invalids". And if they ever return to a city, they'll be thrown in jail, or killed. It is a dangerous life.
It kills you when you have it...
But many Americans still choose to move to the Wilds. Most of them have been infected- have fallen in love. Everyone under 18 can get the disease because before they become adults, Curing them can kill them or paralyze them for life. Of course, boys and girls under 18 are kept separate- it is illegal for uncureds of the opposite sex to know each other. But many break the rules, and their are underground parties that are often co-ed.
And when you don't.
The DFA (Deliria Free America), strive to find a cure for those under 18, while the Invalids struggle for a cure to the Cure. And every day, more children contract the disease. There are more Invalids than the general population believes.
