evaluations and the cure
EVALUATIONS
Before their procedure (or sometimes after if they were cured early for whatever reason), people are evaluated to determine several things about their future. These things are:
Approved Matches (everyone gets a list of four people of the opposite sex that they are allowed to marry. They rank to choices and a week or so later, find out who they will marry).
Their Job
Whether or Not They Attend College
Evaluations are also used to flag potential problem citizens, although this fact is not common knowledge.
After evaluations everyone is given a score based on how satisfactory their answer were. This number doesn't carry real weight, but it is a point of pride. It is rumored the DFA use the score when deciding whether or not to hire a citizen.
Once it is less than a week (real life time) away from your character's eighteenth birthday, you need to contact staff to set your appointment. Most likely we'll have contacted you, but if we haven't, you need to contact us.
You will receive the date for your character's procedure after the evaluation.
THE CURE
Benefits
The Cure eliminates strong emotions. Cured are less likely to get "hurt" emotionally, and rarely get upset or cry. Their life are ritualistic and serene.
Risks
(The chance of complications increases with each additional procedure, and if the procedure is performed before the person is eighteen).
There is a risk that death or permanent, full body paralysis may occur. There is also a risk that the Cure will work too well and the person will feel no, or very little emotion. There is also a "risk" that the Cure won't work.
Whether or not your character experiences complications is up to you, but try to be reasonable.
